To celebrate its 20th edition, Finland’s premiere documentary film festival DocPoint is proud to announce the launching of two annual competitions at the 2021 festival early next year.

The DocPoint Yle Award for Best International Documentary Film and DocPoint Yle Award for Best Finnish Documentary Film, each worth 5000 Euros, are funded by the national broadcaster Yle.

Twelve feature length films included in DocPoint’s international selection will be nominated for the DocPoint Yle Award for Best International Documentary Film. DocPoint’s national competition series consists of new Finnish titles over 40 minutes in length. Films in both competitions must be Finnish premieres.

Two juries consisting of international and Finnish experts will select the award winners in both competitions. The award winners will be announced at the DocPoint Award Gala on the 6th of February 2021.

“DocPoint has become an important cultural institution with a unique role in Finland to promote the art of documentary filmmaking and offer a platform for the best creative new documentary films. We want to celebrate our 20th anniversary by supporting filmmakers while making documentary films even more visible. And we do want to enhance DocPoint’s own visibility as one of the key players in the Nordic documentary film sphere”, says DocPoint’s artistic director Kati Juurus.

DocPoint – Helsinki Documentary Film Festival is the only film festival in Finland dedicated solely to documentary films. The 20th edition of DocPoint takes place 29.1.-7.2.2021. This year the festival will take a hybrid form. Most of the program will take place in cinemas if the covid19 situation allows. There will be an additional online aspect with some films and lots of Q&As, discussions and masterclasses available on docpointfestival.fi
