The Apollo Award of DocPoint 2020 goes to Juha Samola, the long time General Secretary of the Promotion Centre for Audiovisual Culture, AVEK. The prize criteria mentions Samola’s efforts in creating opportunities for Finnish documentary cinema, as well as his role as a tireless defender of new media art and experimental cinema. DocPoint’s Apollo selection is curated as a carte blanche by the recipient of the award. For the selection Samola chose seven very different European films: “In their time they showed me the power of documentary films, along with the hidden possibilities they possess.”
